I'm Geoff, and this
site is for you if bike riding is an important part of your life, or
you want it to be. I am a bike commuter, about 17 miles round trip
most days. Bike commuting for nearly 9 years now, and I've been riding about 18
seriously. My goal is to help more people get on bikes by showing
examples of what I and others are doing, and to connect you to helpful
resources.
What I'm not... a
racer, a fitness fanatic, a tri-athlete. I cycle for transportation, health,
and to interact with other humans and the outdoors. I'm a plow horse, not a thoroughbred. I have a
cycle computer and keep track of miles and time...which I track in a
daily journal. Along with weight and consumption of food and
beverages, the journal tells a lot about myself at the end of the month
and year.
I save about $7,000 a year by not owning a car. I rent a few times a year, and
"enjoy the thrill" of a new car for a couple days or weekends. It took
a couple years to realize how much more sense a bike makes. Now in my 10th
year without a car, I don't miss having one at all.
It helps to strategically buy a home within a mile
or two of everything you need, on a bus line (rail too here in Phoenix).
For us, with our last 2 homes, that's a priority when we choose where to live, it's our lifestyle, I HAVE to be able to get to work without a car!
YOU CAN DO IT, YES
YOU CAN! WHO's stopping you? ONLY YOU.
