I'm Geoff, and this
site is for you if bike riding is an important part of your life, or
you want it to be. I am a bike commuter, about 10 miles round trip
every day, going on 5 years now, and I've been riding about 11
seriously. My goal is to help more people get on bikes by showing
examples of what I and others are doing, and to connect you to helpful
resources.
What I'm not... a
racer, a fitness fanatic, a tri-athlete. I cycle for transportation and
health. I'm a plodder, a plow horse, not a thoroughbred. I do have a
cycle computer and keep track of miles and time...which I track in a
daily journal. Along with my weight and consumption of food and
beverages, the journal tells a lot about myself at the end of the month
and year.
I save about
$7,000 a year by not owning a car. I rent a few times a year, and
"enjoy the thrill" of a new car for a couple days or weekends. It took
a couple years to puzzle out how much more sense a bike makes. Now
starting my 4th year without a car, once in a while I get out on my
daughters Vespa ($2,500, no insurance) and that's about as close to a
full time vehicle I'll ever go.
Yes it helps that
we bought our home in a strategic location within 1 mile of everything
we need, and near 2 bus lines.
YOU CAN DO IT, YES
YOU CAN! WHO's stopping you? ONLY YOU.
